PLACE & APPETITE

Istria,
at the table.

A good lunch can be a way of understanding a landscape. In Istria, we would rather arrange one meaningful visit than collect a dozen tasting stops.

Follow the season, not the script

Istria’s autumn food culture gives a journey a natural focus. The tourist board highlights truffles, the olive harvest and the region’s wine traditions. But a harvest is shaped by the year, the weather and the producer. Ask what is happening now, not what last year’s photograph promised.

One visit is enough

Choose a producer whose work genuinely interests you. An olive-oil tasting, for example, gives you a reason to pay attention to the land around Bale. Meneghetti lists estate tastings on its own website. Confirm the format and availability directly; an editorial mention is not a reservation or a partnership.

“One producer. One good table. The rest of the day left open.”

Let lunch become the afternoon

Allow enough time for the table. Ask what is seasonal and keep the order simple enough to taste it. Then leave the next appointment out. The most considered itinerary can be the one that knows when to stop.

The practical part of pleasure

Book ahead, share dietary needs and arrange a driver when wine is involved. Carry a flexible plan for the rest of the day. Good hospitality is easier to enjoy when no one has to rush.
